Kandersteg Ice Climbing Festival at the Ice Climbing Arena Right Opposite the Gemmi Lodge

One of the largest and most popular ice climbing festivals in Europe will be taking place in January 2014 for the 15th time. The Gemmi Lodge will yet again be our host providing facilities for participants and spectators. The frozen rock face made especially for the Ice Climbing Festival is located directly opposite the Gemmi Lodge at the entrance to the Kandersteg Rope Course. Slideshows by Ueli Steck and Conrad Anker will be shown in the Kandersteg Community Hall. On  Sunday, the workshops will be held on the Event Area.

How to Find Us:

By Car Driving from the north you travel via the Basel (A2) or Zürich (A1) motorways, or you come from Geneva (A1) travelling in the direction of Bern. From Bern take the A6 motorway in the direction of Thun and Spiez. After travelling 24km along a well-maintained road, you will reach the holiday destination of Kandersteg. Journey time from Basel and Zürich is 2 hours, from Bern 1 hour and from Geneva 2 hours. Driving from the south you take the Simplon Pass and then go through the Lötschberg Tunnel by car-transporter train arriving in Kandersteg. www.bls.ch/autoverlad By Rail Kandersteg Station has hourly Intercity and EuroCity connections and is only a 2 minute walk away from the village centre.
